...even if it takes a few days. Satisfaction comes, trust me.
The setting didn't bother me, I rather liked the way it was done as if on a floor plan on paper. Very unique, different.
I REALLY like this director, so I felt I HAD to watch till the end to form a complete opinion. Not many can do that these days and I'm the kind of person who is extremely critical of how I spend my precious time. (Growing up in a Funeral Parlor taught me that Time isn't offered just to children

I’ve seen his movies before, and I wasn’t expecting anything less than typical, but this was so out of pocket it made me sick. I’m not a movie snob I liked melancholia and nymphomaniac was tough to watch. But this was just absolutely boring. Well, I think the concept is interesting. This isn't about the film (which is a masterpiece by all possible standards), but about the product.
There is an English 5.1 soundtrack, but everything else is in German, including the chapters' titles and the menu. Why not keep leave them as they were intended and add with German subtitles, instead of altering the original material, is anyone's guess. Save for an audio comment, there are no extras whatsoever. My girl asked me to watch, said it was great and good actors. I agreed. Not to far into the movie I had to turn my eyes away because the director had the camera people, shake, move and rattle ever scene giving me vertigo. But I persisted and only came away with a town of badly behaving people and rapists with out any consequences.

Für mich einer der besten Filme von Lars von Trier, den ich öfters verschenke, natürlich nicht an Freunde des Hollywood-Kinos. Es sollte einen nicht verschrecken, daß er ganz im Studio in der Art einer Theateraufführung aufgenommen wurde; man wird so in die Handlung hineingezogen, dass einem der Realismus des Theaters völlig ausreicht. Ein düsterer Film über die menschliche Existenz, der dem Menschen nicht gerade schmeichelt.

Natürlich wäre es in dem Wissen, das Dorf Dogville als symbolisches Amerika einordnen zu können, naheliegend, die Rolle der Grace unter Zwang zu körperlicher Arbeit für geringsten Lohn sowie unter entgegenschlagender Anfeindung als die des Einwanderers in den Vereinigten Staaten zu sehen, jedoch stellt das Anwenden einer derartigen Metapher bereits eine zu große Distanz zum Geschehen her. Eine Distanz, welche die Möglichkeit gibt, sich in der Gewissheit, hier etwas politisch Relevantes gesehen

It is easy to see why all the "lovies" involved would consider this, what is basically a drama class exercise on film, a worthwhile project but it is only that. Kind of negates the whole point of making a "movie". Don't believe all the high talking hype, folks; the Emperor is naked and this boy is calling it out.

Two of the things I greatly dislike are opera and stage plays/live theater. I did not realize that this was not a "movie" until I began to watch it. I hoped, and expected, that it would soon transition into a more realistic view but it did not. So, I cannot comment on the content only on the format which caused me to stop the action after about a half hour. Returning things to Amazon is a pain so I just tossed this into the trash.

In a stark set of chalk outlines for walls and spare furnishings inside those "walls" a story unfolds in the 30s, as most of his flicks do. A young woman shows up in a secluded mountain hamlet in Colorado running from the laws. The townsfolk agree to take her in and little by little start to take advantage of her until they become abusive, even the children.
