Mit der Box "Crossroads" kam 1988 eine repräsentative Werkschau Eric Clapton's auf den Markt. 1996 folgte mit "Crossroads 2 (live in the seventies)" eine Fortsetzung dieser Edition. Diesmal beinhalteten die vier CDs Konzertmitschnitte Slowhand's aus den Jahren 1974 bis 1978. Ergänzt wird das Ganze durch vier rare Studio-Titel. Allein 17 der 35 Tracks waren dem Blues, Eric's großer Leidenschaft, gewidmet. Völlig zu Recht heißt es dazu in John McDermott's

Für jeden Eric-Clapton-Fan ein ein Muss! Diese Sammlung von Eric Clapton gehört einfach ins CD-Regal. Es sind herrliche Live-Aufnahmen aus den 70ern. Es macht immer wieder Spaß diese Musik in sich aufzusaugen. Nach dem Motto: "Musik kann die Welt nicht retten, aber ab und zu Deine Seele!"

Crossroads von 1988 war eines der ersten umfangreichen und vor allem erfolgreichen Boxsets. Kein Wunder dass Eric Clapton Crossroads 2 (Live In The Seventies) Mitte der 90er nachschob. Konnten mich seine Studio-Alben egal ob mit Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominos oder auch solo nie so richtig überzeugen, so war das mit seinen Konzertmitschnitten meist anders, da diese weniger steril klangen und häufig auch durch Improvisationen und längere Soli glänzten. Das ist auch bei den Aufnahmen

Mir hat Clapton's Band um George Terry, Carl Radle, Jamie Oldaker, Dick Sims und Yvonne Elliman immer sehr gut gefallen. Live ging sie einfach los. Etwas authentischeres gibt es kaum von Clapton. Meiner Meinung nach die vielleicht beste Band, mit der Eric Clapton je spielte. Außer Cream.

Crossroads 2 is a very beautiful addition to the 1988 box set Crossroads However, the vast majority of tracks on this Crossroads 2 was recorded live on period of 74 - 78, all of which are performed with energy and power by legendary guitarist and this band. Are long and melodic songs with great guitar solos. "Live in the seventies", so lautet der Untertitel dieses Albums. Und damit ist eigentlich auch schon gesagt worum es sich handelt. Vier CD mit insgesamt über 4 Stunden Live-Stücken von Eric Clapton aus Alben wie "Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs", "461 Ocean Boulevard" "Backless" oder "Slowhand". Die Aufnahmen sind allesamt erstaunlich gut für Live-Mitschnitte, ich würde sogar sagen, dass sie zum Teil besser sind als die Studioaufnahen.
