Carol Reed is well known for working with children actors.
This is one of the films that shows his expertise.
The quality of picture and sound of this blu ray is excellent.
A great film of the holiday seasons.

After reading the story to my 7 year old grandson I thought it would be good if he watched the film. I remembered watching this particular adaptation many years ago and was delighted to find it on Amazon. Songs are great but be warned, you will be singing them for days afterwards!

I love musicals and Oliver! is definitely among my favorites. I have seen it on stage in London and love it. The movie version is absolutely beautiful

A nostalgic gift for my 12 yr old daughter, that ended up being a gift for all of us. We'd forgotten how many wonderful songs are packed therein.
Film quality is good for the period, and I'm glad it hasn't been modified (recolored or digitally altered).
Am so glad the next generation of our family can enjoy Oliver!

I love old movies. The older the better. I also prefer to own, rather than to stream. Yes, the sound quality, and the picture quality, can be poor as compared to current standards, but if you know about the history of the equipment used to create the film; the fragile type of the film itself; the condition in which they were likely stored; and the quality of speakers and recording equipment which were used at the time; then you will not be bothered by the poor sound/picture quality at all. The music is haunting and delightful. Fagan is played with great artistry. And how can you go wrong with a Dickens story?

| Defective DVD - Missing significant portions of the movie | 26.01.2023
Unfortunately this DVD was missing the first third of the movie. Instead of opening with the orphanage scene and the initial encounter with the Artful Dodger and Fagin, it began with the Who Will Buy This Beautiful Morning street scene. Video and audio quality was surprisingly good given the date the original movie was made.

| Poor and grainy picture quality, | 31.12.2019
This timeless classic production was marred by the poor picture quality which is grainy throughout ,and it took ages to load as well. There's no rolling credits at the end either so no details on the film.
I recently saw this film on Channel 5HD on Christmas Day and the picture quality was superb, so this must be an early film version copied to Blu-ray and not a digitally re-mastered version.

La description:
A rousing film version of Lionel Bart's musical adaptation of Dickens's classic novel, OLIVER! stars Ron Moody as Fagin and Mark Lester as the eponymous hero. The orphaned Oliver escapes to London from a dreary workhouse and is taken in by a gang of young pickpockets who work for master thief Fagin while learning their trade. When he's falsely accused of stealing from the gang by the fearsome Bill Sikes (Oliver Reed), Oliver begins to realise that he has more friends than he had thought.
