Just awesome, I think Tool are the greatest band on earth & I can't pick a favourite album as they all bring something new. Notable for me on Lateralus is "Schism", "Parabola" & "Lateralus". The whole album is great but these stand out for me because of the wisdom & positivity of the lyrics, the tremendous & hypnotic music & the beautiful vocals. All of the band members seem to be the best in their field! Very thought provoking. Highly

I love all kinds of music, especially metal. Also, being a musician (well, drummer...), I can definitely appreciate the talent these guys have. However, not going to lie here, it's all just a bit pretentious. Every now and then it would be nice to hear them just enjoy a riff in a time signature that doesn't give you a stroke when you try and follow it. The only way I'd be able to get into this is if I could allow it to wash over me without dissecting what they are doing in my head.

I don't listen to metal much, I've usually just shrugged it off as noise but after many recommendations from a friend I buckled for Tool. I didn't realise how much I'd like them, with the loud brashness of the genre sounding wonderful with Tool. The songs are are all diverse and I can't stop coming back again and again for another listen. So many new things are heard each listen I really don't think this album could ever go stale. From somebody who came from much softer

Un excellent cd de Tool, différent du superbe 10 000 days mais aussi envoûtant et admirablement bien fait.
Je conseille d'aller voir une très bonne critique de ce cd sur metalorgie.fr, en cliquant sur le nom du groupe, qui vous fournira son histoire et les critiques de chacun de leur cd. Si vous appréciez Tool, Lateralus ne doit pas manquer à votre collection !!!

Somewhere between the calibrated finesse of Aenima and repetitious bloat of 10,000 lies another metal epic containing its share of pattern-pushing numbers but also containing too much self-important musical and atmospheric filler to justify running time for anyone but faithful followers.

I can't get enough of Tool and this album has it all, metal, progressive rock, industrial, and straight rock and roll. Some songs can get a little lengthy at times, but they are always worth a listen.

What's the meaning behind Tool's songs? I couldn't tell you. Nearly every meaning could be debated until the end of time since Tool refuses to comment. That being said, I think the central theme of this album is that of Plato's theory of Dualism, that the mind and body are separate entities. Specifically, in the songs Parabol/Parabola and Lateralus.
Tool has never ceased to amaze and Lateralus is no exception. Tool's timing syncopation, driving bass, and intellectual

It's January 2009 as i write this review and having just listened to Lateralus for the 10 zillionth time on my way home from work in the car i felt the overwhelming urge to share my thoughts on this album. I bought it way back in 2001 on the day of its release and nearly 8 years later i still keep returning to it every couple of months or so to get a fix. This is timeless music in every sense of the word, it simply will never grow old. Tool have created the most perfect heavy

Tool's "Lateralus" is definitely their most popular CD, and my favorite next to "10000 Days". If your just getting into Tool, this should definitely be your first buy. "Lateralus" is bordering on psychedelic, and doesn't show as much anger as "Undertow" or "Aenima". It's a pretty approachable album, and features some killer tracks like the radio famous "Schism" and "Parabola" two of my favorite songs. If you can

Despite me knowing very little about Tool, other than hearing Maynard James Keenan in the A Perfect Circle project, the cover alone drew me into buying 'Lateralus'. I'd always been into metal amd rock of all sorts but with grunge well and truly dead by the turn of the milennium, it was only my Rage Against the Machin and Led Zeppelin albums that were gettinga regular airing.
Watching MTV I spotted an intiguing video of 'Schism', possibly this album's biggest hit. I was

This ablum is quite possibly the greatest album ever written, in fact no scratch that it is the best. This album has to be listened to from start to finish as all of the songs blend together into what can only be described as a masterpiece. If you play the drums (like me) or you play the bass it will really stand out to you how individually telented each of the mebers of this band are

No words can describe how much I love Lateralus, its just an incredible artisic gem of an album. In my opinion, it is not Tool's best work (AEnima is their best and will always be)but I still love it just the same.
Alot of people thought that Tool couldn't possibly create another album that could match AEnima but it was possible.
A masterpiece!

Having already bought this record (for decidely more at HMV I might add!), let me just say to prospective owners of this album that Lateralus will sound brilliant the first time you hear it, but it isn't an album you will understand as quickly - it takes at least 4 full listens of this album before it starts to make sense, probably becuase of MJ Keenan's opaque lyricism and the bands all-round expansive sounds - this is an essential purchase for anyone who loves good music, not just Prog
