I thought I was only going to receive a Mobile Fidelity CD, but it ended up being an SACD that's also playable on CD players. I already have a vinyl and another CD copy but neither of them sounded remotely as good as a first-pressing I heard at a friend's house when it first came out. However, this MoFi version sounds absolutely fantastic; it's audiophile-quality show-of-your-system material! The sound is very natural and it's like all the musicians are right in the room with

Gran lavoro, con suoni autentici e diretti della tradizione del southern rock. A parte un paio di brani meno efficaci (fra cui una versione di Stand By Me che poteva anche non esserci e nessuno l'avrebbe rimpianta....), il disco si ascolta con piacere. Se dovessimo giudicare in relazione al panorama musicale di oggi, poi, sarebbe un capolavoro....

...nach langer Ankündigung hat sich MFSL nun den Ry Cooder-Klassiker aus 1976 zur Brust genommen.Und siehe da, die Zeit scheint spurlos an diesem Meisterwerk vorübergegangen zu sein.Frisch und kein bißchen verstaubt präsentiert sich die einzigartige Mixtur aus Folk, Blues, Hawaii & Tex Mexin restauriertem Klangkostüm. Ry Cooder is not a gifted vocalist, but in every other respect this is a fine album. "He'll Have To Go" (a love song) and the ubiquitous "Stand By Me" feature the legendary accordionist Flaco Jimenez. "Yellow Roses" is a love song performed with feeling, including steel guitar. "Chloe" is a pretty instrumental.

Definitely a "desert island disk," one that I couldn't do without. I need to listen to this on a regular basis.Ry Cooder performs the Bajo Sexto, mandola, bottleneck guitar, French accordion, electric guitar, slack-key guitar, tiple, Hawaiian guitar, and lead vocals on this recording, but it's the other personnel and the songs they play that make this one of the greatest recordings ever. Mitte der 70er fiel diese Platte sicher aus dem Rahmen. Nach Buena Vista Socal Club und Talking Timbuktu klingt sie wie ein weiteres herausragendes Stück musical archaeology von Ry Cooder, das aus obskuren Gründen drei Jahrzehnte früher vorgestellt wurde. Coole Version von "Stand By Me"!

Sorry, but this is where Cooder starts to loose me. His attempt to branch out with accordion and slack key guitar ends up making most of the songs sound the same and his vocals seem more awkward on this album then the previous ones. The album does contain one all time Cooder gem though, a cover of Leadbelly's outrageous Borgeois Blues!

His attempt to branch out with accordion and slack key guitar ends up making most of the songs sound the same and his vocals seem more awkward on this album then the previous ones. The album does contain one all time Cooder gem though, a cover of Leadbelly's outrageous Borgeois Blues!

I remembered this recording from when it was first released. I remembered its title with great fondness, and the song "Smack Dab in the Middle" is part of my "permanent soundtrack." Of course, Ry Cooder has always been a master guitarist, and Flaco Jimenez plays a mean accordion, so you can't go too wrong. Still, listening today, I must say the song choices (with the aforementioned exception) are not particularly memorable. I believe one might be better off with
